The Golden (Ages) 60

The Golden program includes and is adopted by the United Nations Principles for Older Persons:

The Golden Group are our women in their 60s. Women at this stage are entering into the transition of late adulthood and perceived aging. At this point many women face some great opportunities and challenges based on how they lived their younger years due to changing life circumstances. Some are entering retirement, although now, many are retiring later or not at all.

Although the personality of the aging women tends to stay the same. Some women may go into acceptance of the aging process by taking advantage of the freedom they now have or disengage from taking an active role in the shaping of their lives.

The aim of the Abigail project is that women are empowered to live their life to the fullest, while realizing their full potential. We encourage women to maintain their desired level of involvement in society in order to maximize their sense of well being.

We bring to light some of the challenges of this stage of life, such as:

  • Lack of resources and housing to meet their basic needs
  • Changes in family structure from the lost of their parents, closed family members
  • Physical and emotional decline, including institutionalism: a sense of learned helplessness, a belief that one has no control over one’s environment.

We believe that because we are daughters of God, we are called to live full and healthy lives until the end of our days here on earth.

The Golden program includes and is adopted by the United Nations Principles for Older Persons:

  • Independence: Meeting basic needs of home and shelter
  • Care: family support, health care, safety, basic rights and freedoms
  • Participation: Being integrated  and active in the development of  society, serving as volunteers and creating opportunities to affect change
  • Self-fulfilment-pursuing opportunities to develop your full potential with access to educational, cultural, spiritual and recreational resources of society.
  • Dignity: Being aware of your right to live safely and free of exploitation, including any and all types of abuse. Being treated fairly regardless of age, gender, race or socio-economical status.
There is room for all women here.
